Social Media in the classroom

Using social media and technology in the classroom is a great method to improve learning. It is very interesting because it is something that will always develop as the years go by. Social media makes it easier for the teacher to teach. It can be used as references to the learners to help them with their task or to improve their learning.

I don’t think that it’s necessary that social media is a “must”, but it is very usable. What learners should remember is that social media can be very addictive. They should know in what kind of way to use it. To use social media for a negative purpose can be negative on learning. Learners must use it for the purpose to improve their learning.

How can I use social media forms to be a better teacher?

My work as a teacher will be easier. Using social media can make my lessons very interesting for the learners. In such way the learners would enjoy my class and my lessons. I then will be a better teacher for them. I the future I will make use of this method.

My First Teaching Practise

Definitely a period of time I will never forget. Between the 20th of July and the 17th of August I experienced my first teaching practise and my first time being in the shoes of a teacher.

At first, I was very nervous but it got chilled after the first week. I got settled and it became easy to lead the class. I really enjoyed helping the learners, being active with them in class, and most of all to teach them.

Teaching practise change how I see myself as I teacher. At first I saw myself as a very strict teacher, a teacher that doesn’t take any nonsense. What I have learned during my teaching practise period is that being strict is not always the way so solve a problem in class. I have learned that there are so many other ways in being a teaching to handle a situation in the classroom. I have learned so many strategies to use in class that will help me to become a great teacher.

Once I have told you that I have a dream. That dream I will archive. Teaching practise didn’t have a negative influence in my dream. It helped me to dream bigger and better. By never giving up, I will live the dream.

A good teacher

What do I think are the characteristics of a ‘good’ teacher?

First of all, you must love what you are doing. A good teacher must have a passion for teaching. Do NOT do it for the money, do it to make a positive impact in the lives of children. I see a good teacher as a person who is always available to the children and a person who will always help them, with or without their schoolwork.

During my school career I was blessed with great teachers. I call them “Opportunity Creaters “. For some reason they treated the learners like their own children .Being a mother and father to their learners in class.  That’s how I see myself as an educator.

Looking at my school career, I want to influence the learner one day in such a positive way, the same way my teachers influenced my life. I CAN, I WILL, WATCH ME!!

Who am I???

Good day to all the readers!!!! .

What a pleasure it is to introduce myself. My name is Jean Dillon Johnson. I was born on the 18th of September in the year 1996. I’ve lived and grew up in a very little beautiful place, called Worcester. At the moment I’m in Wellington for a reason.

As I grew up I never wanted to become a teacher. For a big dreamer like me, I wanted to become a Charted Accountant. Until one day something happened. I remember how I was sitting in class in the year 2011 (Grade 9), looking outside the window and daydreaming. Suddenly the teacher asked me a question in front of the whole class. So Jean Johnson couldn’t answer the question. The teacher called me to the front and gave me an order to tell the class more about the work we were doing in the class. Without being nervous or anything, I started talking and teaching my own friends. The teacher thought that was my punishment but that was the day I felt like a teacher. What was the day I created a passion to become an educator. During my school career I have been very blessed with opportunities to become a better person in this life. So now it is my desire to give the next generation the opportunities that I had. Not to give it to them on a plate, but just to motivate them to make a positive difference.

The big dreamer that I once upon a time was, are still dreaming, but just a different dream. This year I found myself in a place called Wellington. I am a proud first year student of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.  Once again I was blessed with this opportunity. I’m doing the B.ED FET course and enjoying it very much. This is what I want and this is where I want to be. ARE YOU?

Until next time
